My First Malifaux Tournament

So, I played in my first Malifaux tournament today.  And, I won.  Funny that!  Four of us showed up to play, so we did a three-round round-robin.  Basically, we all played each other and then we compared tournament records at the end.

ROUND ONE: vs. Arcanists - The shared strategy was Claim Jump, and I spent the game moving my Death Marshals within three inches of the 30mm objective.  My opponent was keeping most of his models in cover from where he would fire shots with Gunsmiths and slang spells with Kaeris.  During the second round I charged Kaeris with The Judge and discovered that wasn't the wisest course of action.  But, somehow he survived to see the end of the game.  Just about everything did, because before we knew it the round was over.  I had all but one of my models on the claim.  My opponent didn't have anything near the objective, so I ended up winning the game.  I got the strategy and an additional point for Hold Out which I didn't announce.

ROUND TWO: vs. Neverborn -  I played against The Dreamer, and the scenario required us to take and hold table corners.  We both played aggressively, but I was able to assassinate  both The Dreamer and Lord Chompy Bits and take a lot of options away from my opponent.  When the dust settled neither of us were able to get off our schemes, but I did manage to take one point from the strategy and earn a victory.

ROUND THREE: vs. Arcanists - The final scenario was Treasure Hunt and I found myself up against Collette and her Showgirls.  And, I actually had to cry broken during this game.  When Collete somehow managed to get a model to the objective during the first turn, swap places with it and then swap places with Cassandra, and then Cassandra manages to take off with the treasure.  I thought the game was over when the objective was taken back to Collette's deployment zone, but I had it in my head that completing the victory conditions of the scenario would end the game.  It was explained to me that this was not the case, so I ended up chasing the guy down and managing to assassinate Collette.  At the end of the game my opponent got +4 points for the strategy, and I got +4 points for getting off both of my announced schemes.  So we legitimately tied.

Between the second and third round I swift-walked across the parking lot to grab a couple corn dogs.  While I was doing this my fully painted models were judged for the painting competition, and I ended up winning.   Top Prize was a three day pass to SoCal Smackdown, and I got 10 dollars in credit to Wyrd Miniatures online store.

All in all I'd say it was a good day of Malifaux.
